Joan Linder in (Com)passos

Biblioteca Municipal José Saramago, Odemira, Portugal

(Com)passos is an exhibition that considers the bodies of this landscape, the very one that surrounds us and of which we are part of. They’re not our bodies, they’re the bodies of others: the mud that sits along the banks of the River Mira, the reeds that spread across any emptiness they find, the sound waves of birds chirping and bells ringing, the texture of the pine trees‘ legs, the constant exchanges of matter that take place under our feet and even the swallows’ nests. They have all been named here as testimonies of this territory.

This selection of works documents the constant change of the landscape, paying attention to the different layers of fragility that are part of it. Moved by different winds and wills, these 11 artists have developed research projects at Cultivamos Cultura, giving shape to their own concerns. They have embodied it through experimental daily routines, walks, movements, gatherings and records that show attention to detail and take on the perspectives of other bodies.

This is an invitation at three times: to nostalgia, to revisit the adventures that have happened to us here; to restlessness, to ponder the path we are building together; and to presence, to feel the capacity we have to transform ourselves according to this place, incorporating each other’s bodies.
