The Lost and Found Lab is an artist’s residency located in Cos Cob, CT created in honor of James Stevenson by the artist Josie Merck. The Lab’s mission is to provide a work and living space to visual artists, scholars, curators, writers, composers, arts professionals and interdisciplinary thinkers drawn to exploring the relationship between visual art and the written word.
The Lost and Found Lab is pleased to welcome David Opdyke as their May Artist-in Residence. David’s artwork explores globalization, consumerism, and civilization’s abusive relationship with the environment. A draughtsman, sculptor, and animator, David's work is informed by the massive industrial and corporate restructuring he witnessed growing up, namely the abandonment of the city center by manufacturing giants General Electric and ALCO.
In October 2020, Monacelli Press/Phaidon published a book based on his large-scale postcard project “This Land,” with essays by Lawrence Weschler and Maya Wiley. His work is held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, and The Washington Convention Center in DC.
