Victor Burgin: That

Jeu de Paume: October 10, 2023 - January 28, 2024.

Victor Burgin, born in 1941 in the UK, is an artist and theorist. He first came to prominence in the late 1960s through his contributions to the first museum shows of ‘conceptual art’. In formal terms, Burgin’s works explore relations between still and moving images and words, most often in their narrative functions. Although his works are rooted in everyday reality, Burgin’s main and most constant concern is with the psychological space where perceptions of the physical world merge with memory and fantasy.

The works will be displayed in such a way as to bring out the quintessence of Victor Burgin’s artistic concerns. The publication that will accompany the exhibition will be closer to an artist’s book than a catalogue. Comprised of 192 pages and in two versions, French and English, it will offer a rich selection of extracts from past interviews and a newly published exchange with Pia Viewing, curator of the exhibition.
