Cristin Tierney Gallery is pleased to participate in the 2021 Daata Fair, online from April 20th through May 16th, 2021. Daata is an online-only fair dedicated to showcasing the best of international video and digital art. It provides galleries, collectors, art professionals and art lovers a travel-free experience of screen-based art.
The gallery’s presentation highlights four works by John Wood and Paul Harrison that represent key moments in the artists’ practice: Boat (1995), Pencil/Line/Eraser (2008), One More Kilometre (2009) and 101 Reasons to Stand Somewhere (2020). In early work Boat, the two artists attempt to capsize a semicircle they’ve constructed in front of a blue background. Pencil/Line/Eraser shows one hand drawing a line, while another hand follows behind erasing it. In One More Kilometre, a belt sander is applied to a stack of paper that measuring one kilometre in length, sending ribbons of sheets cascading to the floor. The recent video 101 Reasons to Stand Somewhere lists 101 reasons one might stand in a place; it is a reply to their 1998 work 12 Reasons to Stand Somewhere.
The artists’ online “booth” at Daata Fair coincides with their exhibition Bored at Cristin Tierney Gallery, open through June 12th, 2021. Bored is their first show with the gallery and their first solo gallery exhibition in the United States.
