Perfect Circle (Imperfect) is a large-scale sculpture of nearly identical life-size cats laying next to and holding each other, forming a circle. Each sculpture has the same form as every other one, but they are differentiated by the irregularities generated during their firing. To create the work, Jensen used the slip cast method, and fired the ceramics with concrete, glaze, and glass. Each of the 18 ceramic cats that make up the work is unique, and was cast individually. The work acknowledges both the necessity of and the profound challenges of maintaining fellowship and cooperative interdependence during a time of raising divisions in our political, social and cultural climate. Jensen was inspired to create Perfect Circle (Imperfect) as a rejoinder to typically masculine earth works, like those by Richard Long.
